The Great Mystery:

This reflection journeys into the heart of the Great Mystery, the infinite unknown that holds all existence. Drawing from personal experience, universal wisdom, and the stillness of meditation, it explores the question: what lies beyond enlightenment? Through vivid imagery and deep insight, it reveals that the universe is within us, and the guru of all is one meditation (awareness)
The Great Mystery: The Infinite Unknown Holding Everything
“We are always drawn toward that which already lives within us.”
We are always drawn toward that which already lives within us.
The first phrase that once stopped me was
“Everyone’s guru is one awareness.”During my visit to India in 2022, I was enveloped by a profound sense of wonder, a quiet knowing that the universe exists within us.
It is my nature to trust, whether the words come from a saint or a thief. Whatever is said about God, even if it is whispered, I hear it completely. Even if there is noise around me, I do not hear it.
From the nature of my being, I have understood at least this much: the journey of everything is a journey into infinity. We are drawn only toward that which already exists within us.
Beyond Enlightenment
For example, what is beyond enlightenment?
No one knows what lies beyond the enlightenment we are familiar with.Life and the universe themselves may be part of a super-universe, life beyond life, and life within life. Infinity may live inside the smallest thought of our mind, and eternity may extend beyond all horizons.
Why can’t we know it? Why can’t we see it?
We do not know the inside of our own body.
We do not know the outer edge of the cosmos.
We are, in a way, an unknowable formula. To make life simple, we often treat Rabb (God) as a subject of study, and through this, we see how far, or how near, we are from understanding ourselves.
There are many religious thoughts about what may exist inside and outside, but I ask you: what are yours?
Our perspective is small; life is vast.
We can only ask: What is life?
Whether our thinking is right or wrong, we do not know. There is a universe of life far greater than what our senses reveal. We do not know what lies beyond the boundary of the observable universe, so how can we claim to know what is beyond enlightenment?
My Waking Dreams
Today, my experiences and my waking dreams are my teachers. They allow me to:
- See the world with new eyes.
- Understand people without judgment.
- Watch storms form in the distance.
- Hear silence speak.
- Recognize the nature of energy.
- Read the colors of nature as scripture.
A person contains within themselves the entire universe in miniature, just as a whole computer program can be stored on a tiny chip or as a vast tree can be contained within a single seed.
Thought as the Creator
Our ability to “draw” or create is measured by the vastness of our thought, by how powerful a small idea can be in explaining or revealing life through words, images, or examples.
All of this flows into a great universal motivating force. We deal with it as thought, not as matter.
When we receive a thought and give it a name, belief, vision, or idea, we imprint it upon ourselves, whether consciously or unconsciously. In this way, our thought becomes an idol.
Life, in all its form, color, and shape, is an expression of this inner capacity. We can see and understand it without any extra effort.
We can only attract to ourselves that which we have already given form to in our mind.
We cannot draw to ourselves what we are not.
The Guru Within
As Baba Nanak says in Japji Sahib:
“Sabna ka Gur ek Dhyan,” The Guru of all is One Meditation, ‘Awareness.’
Here, “Gur” means the secret, the mystery, the way. Through meditation, everything becomes visible; it arises.
Meditation transforms the mind into the soul, as Gurbani says:
“Man tu jot saroop hai.” — O mind, you are the form of light.
As is our thought, so will be our life.
My Practical Understanding
What is thinking? How does it arise in us?
From my own life, I know this: meditation is not just something we do; it is what we become when the mind turns to light. In that state, we are no longer merely thinking; we are being.
Whispers of the Universe and Awareness
When we speak of the universe, we are naming the unnamable.
When we speak of awareness, we are touching what cannot be touched.
Yet, words can become like open windows, letting us glimpse the infinity they point toward.
